A Resounding Success: The Mouse School's Journey to Prekmurje

This time, we journeyed to the east of our beautiful homeland to bring the tale of our brave little mouse heroes to our young friends in Murska Sobota.

Pet ljudi oblečenih v mačke s poslikavami obraza in ušesi, veselo pozirajo. Ena oseba drži rumeno odejo z vzorcem sira.

The team—Katja Vidmar, Iva Šantek, Hana Štraus, Špela Dolinar, Peter Capuder, and Albert Podrekar—used their visit to Prekmurje not only for performances but also for a special recording session at Art Music Records with sound engineer Roman Sarjaš.

We set off on Sunday, November 2nd, as our dance fairy tale was scheduled for two early performances the next morning—at 9:00 and 10:30. Preparing the technical setup, makeup, stage design, and warm-up always requires at least two extra hours, so we began our journey with a stop in the village of Črenšovci, home to Art Music Records.

Katja Dance Company had received an extraordinary invitation: as part of The Mouse School tour in Brussels, we will perform on December 6th at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Belgium for Croatian children and their families. To make the story accessible to them, we translated and recorded the narration in Croatian. Our dancer Iva Šantek stepped up to the microphone and delivered a stellar performance as the narrator.

Immediately after, we continued recording with Katja Vidmar’s voice for our newest dance fairy tale, Where Is Little Penguin?, premiering December 16th in Ljubljana. This seventh fairy tale in Katja Dance Company’s repertoire takes us into the icy embrace of Antarctica, where penguins, a seal, and an albatross face the consequences of human impact on nature. We hope to bring this story to audiences across Slovenia very soon.

After the recording session, we headed to Panonska Vas for an overnight stay, where we were warmly welcomed into their unique little cottages. Sharing dinner preparations and heartfelt conversations brought us even closer together. Trust and strong interpersonal bonds are essential in our dance collective—especially in an environment like ours, where performances are dedicated to charitable causes and often touch on sensitive and deeply moving life stories.

At 7 a.m., despite the rainy morning, we were once again warmly welcomed at Theater Park. Nothing could dampen the incredible spirit of our team, and we got straight to work. Theater Park holds a special place in our hearts—it’s a venue where we’ve experienced some of our most profound artistic moments. We first performed here in 2017 with Life Is a Value, returned in 2019 with Project X, and last year premiered Why Me. This time, we stepped onto the stage with a children’s fairy tale for the very first time—and not just once, but twice! Around 500 children and their companions joined our mouse heroes for two joyful performances.

The atmosphere was unforgettable: wide, curious eyes, enthusiastic applause, and pure excitement when the little mice passed their test with flying colors. Hugs, high-fives, and smiling faces carried both the children and our team through this beautiful Monday. It was a moment when all worries paused at the door, and our thoughts focused on the magical now—where everything feels possible, and warmth and gratitude fill the room. We were there, together, in that moment, and everything felt solvable, with a happy ending in sight.

Our Monday wrapped up back in Ljubljana, where we unloaded the show’s equipment at our home base on Letališka cesta 27.

As we write these lines, the sun is shining outside. We hope it keeps shining within all of us—and that a little piece of fairy tale magic finds its way into our everyday lives.

Join us on November 13th in Grosuplje, where we’ll bring the mouse heroes to life in two more performances—before heading off to Belgium for our international tour.

Stay healthy and positive!
