PROJECT X
HUMAN WAKE UP!
SEED A TREE!
After the extraordinary success of our work and after a meeting with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, we created a new dance performance "Project X" in 2018 - a story about a polluted and depleted planet that provided safe shelter, food and clean air to only a "chosen" 1% of Earthlings, the rest are forced to become ecological migrants in search of that "better" world. A world in which trust, coexistence and survival become enemies.
A tree that is rotting...the stench in the cities that is becoming unbearable...the parched land that can no longer produce food...the dirty seas filled with plastic dumped by MAN!
Life on Earth is a gift we must earn!
Will we miss in time? Before the plastic straw disintegrates after hundreds of years?
Will my child be able to breathe without a mask and not have to drink water from a bottle, but will he be able to open the tap, take water from a well, river, lake?
The premiere with ten dancers took place on November 29, 2018 in Ljubljana. The show saw seven repetitions. In addition to our donations from ticket sales, we also donated tree saplings at the venues. We financially helped the Association of Friends of Youth, paradancer Martina Smodiš with the purchase of a paradance wheelchair and Kiara Roj, a 6-year-old girl with Down's syndrome, epileptic seizures and a severe heart defect.
Eva Pirnat, a famous Slovenian dancer with Down's syndrome, danced with us on stage in three performances.
"STANDING OVATIONS FOR KATJA DANCE COMPANY NEW SHOW PROJECT X"
On November 29, the cultural center Španski borci opened the new dance premiere of Project X, a charity multimedia project performed by the dance group Katja Dance Company (KDC), author, choreographer and dancer Katja Vidmar, who made a surprise appearance on this same stage two and a half years ago, with her charity dance project Life is a Value. Just like then, this year's proceeds from the tickets of the overflowing theatre of Španski borci, as well as from all subsequent performances, will be donated to the Association of Friends of Youth (ZPM) in Moste-Polje. The aforementioned association has been operating for more than 60 years, it is a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping young people in need by organizing holidays, childcare and godparenting for children, consistently following the "Will always finds a way" program.
The sponsor of this heartwarming event is the human rights watch Mrs. Vlasta Nussdorfer, who excused her absence for the sake of a business trip, and in writing wished everyone a nice artistic evening.
Katja Vidmar built her new performance with the new members of the KDC dance group, who were and are still active dancers, choreographers, and also recognizable educators, mostly seen in sports dance clubs, some contemporaries also joined; danced by: Ajda Miklavčič, Anja Robida, Anja Milekšič, Erika Nagode, Larisa Husič, Luka Wernig, Maja Adamič, Matej Pritekelj, Sindi Vogrič, Staša Usnik and Katja Vidmar. The group was also joined by guest Eva Pirnat, known for her dance performances, also with groups of local communities and societies and programs organized by the Public Fund of the Republic of Slovenia for Cultural Activities. Eva is a dancer for whom dancing means life, with her persistence and talent she has helped to make today's society look at people born with Down syndrome differently, including their talents.
Katja Vidmar, Tian Čehić, Matej Pritekelj, Ajda Miklavčič and Metka Beguš created the choreography for at least ten dance performances and more, while the picturesque video projections and photographs were produced by Albert Podrekar, who is also the producer of the project. Albert Podrekar, Katja Vidmar and Ajda Miklavčič chose the music, pleasant to the ears and dance rhythms, which helped to build the dance and upgrade the choreographic beats, and also followed the story and videos.
Katja Vidmar is a Slovenian professor by profession, who once again wove her original connecting text into the dance scene, when she pointed in a poetic spirit to the importance of a clean environment for life itself, to the under-perceived gratitude and concern that we were able to design our lives on planet Earth . "Will we see and understand it in time? Wake up human! Plant a tree!" are the words written in the subtitle of the program sheet of this new Katjas project. The words are encouraging and inspire a healthy spirit of life, when the videos reveal natural values, the wealth of the water supply, as well as the purity of the air and atmosphere that (should) surround this earthly living space.
The story is almost imperceptibly connected and continues to last year's performance, it is a kind of second act of the same story about a doctor, an oncologist, who herself suffered from cancer. After all the possible traumas after the therapies, she also began to approach nature anew, to discover it, to search for it and to direct herself towards a new lifestyle, which is not only expressed in words and scenic video painting, but also expressed in choreographed moments, in team dances implementations.
The clear and large video projections show the beauty of green areas, forests, mountains and the coast, including the author or her character hugging the trees, a group breathing fresh air, a scene of ten nuances of the natural environment. The dance performance Project X runs on two levels, on the stage in the sense of the present and in the perfection of the dance performance of individuals, duets and soloists alongside video images enriched with the mental depths of the author or her hero.
In the choreography, the feelings and inner states of the oncologist are expressed at a high performance level, while the dance forms round off the content in a wide choreographic palette of dance styles, such as jazz, modern, show, as well as new-age movement attractions and acrobatics. Every exit was decorated with a new dance costume elegance, the costume design goes to Katja Vidmar, Ajda Miklavčič and Tina Gorenjak, and the lighting setup by Matej Šarf also contributed to the universal stage magic, which began with the solo inspiration of the talented young dancer Luka Wernig, a student of Škofijska high school, who hones his artistic potential further at the ballet school.
His solo take-off was not only the perfection of movement performances, it was the breath of youth, the flight of a body that breathes freely with each movement, and with its breath reaches for new sensual dimensions that touch you as the flight lengthens before descending to the real ground , and the movements invisibly reflect the inner suggestions of the dancer.
The performance ends in group spirit and orientation, when they carry and carry the dancer Katja, the author, who visually depicts the new path of her hero, the doctor. Even a young tree seedling gets a new chance when it is donated at the end to the ZPM program The will always finds a way. And right at the end, they delight the audience with a dance performance of smiling faces, and of course again impress the audience, which stands, shouts and applauds.
